[nat: der reader, please welcome our new author @isabella_isza !!! thank you girl, for your awesome first blogpost for out collaborative art blog! ]I started listening to Smashing Pumpkins, a little late, in 2000 thanks to the video of The Everlasting Gaze and I went only to two live concerts, both in Italy. I think that with this second concert of 14 July 2013 in Rome, my city, I had the best experience of my whole life and that I will never forget. I got a complete Pumpkins thing, I started meeting Jeff Schroeder, then “the man itself” Billy Corgan to finish with an awesome and neverending concert! To go a little inside, I met Jeff thanks to a fluke; me and my friend Francesca were walking around the city all day long looking at band’s tweets and when we were a little discouraged he showed up from nowhere. We literally jumped screaming Jeff, Jeff, Jeff and he was frightened by us, but when he saw my Oceania shirt he made a smile and we took 2 pictures, he was really kind but very shy! I still can’t believe that we got to meet Billy, we found him early in the morning about to go sightseeing, I suppose! So we had the chance to talk with him a little, to grab some autographs and again 2 photos, he came out to be very funny, joking with us and being so so kind! We said goodby to him with a nice hug! The day after started the long waiting to gain first row at the concert, the waiting lasted about almost 6 hours under the sun to finish with me on stands and my friends on first row! The concert was opened by the american band Beware of Darkness, soon followed by the awesome Mark Lanegan, dressed in a complete black outfit, that started with “The Gravedigger’s Song” off to “Blues Funeral” then “Sleep With Me”, “Hit the City”, “Gray Goes Black”, “One Way Street”, “Black Rose Way” (Screaming Trees song), “Devil in my Mind” (Smoke Fairies cover), “Creeping Coastline of Lights” (Leaving Trains cover), “Phantasmagoria Blues”, “Harborview Hospital”, “Methamphetamine Blues”. The sun started going down, just the time to prepare the stage, two seconds of rain, then the Pumpkins arrived on stage! The crowd was warm and the band was in an good mood ready to rock everyone out! The setlist with 25 songs is one of the most longer of this tour, they played songs from almost all their discography (Oceania (6), Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (5), Siamese Dream (4), Gish (3), Zeitgeist (2), Adore (1), MACHINA/the machines of God (1), The Aeroplane Flies High (1) ):
Quasar Panopticon
Starz Rocket
Space Oddity (David Bowie cover)
X.Y.U.
Disarm
Tonite Reprise
Tonight, Tonight Pinwheels
Oceania
Thirty-Three
Ava Adore
Bullet with Butterfly Wings
One Diamond, One Heart
Pale Horse
Today
Zero
Stand Inside Your Love
United States
Followed by two encores:
Encore1: I Am One
Siva (with “Breathe” snippet by Pink Floyd)
Rhinoceros
Encore 2:
Immigrant Song (Led Zeppelin cover)
Cherub Rock
The concert lasted 2 hours and a half, of complete awesomeness, during wich Billy talked with the crowd and joked about typical italians gestures and behaviours and the Roman crowd sang loud! I was so happy that I didn’t search for some official merchandising to buy, the experience was complete that way! So in 3 days I made some new friends, listened to a lot of good music and met my musical hero, I could not ask for more! oh and I also lost two kilos 🙂 I am so grateful, thank you Billy and thank you guys! See you next time!

[ nat: and thank you francesca for allowing me to post your photo!!! ]
the british band CALLING ALL ASTRONAUTS need you! they want you to take a picture of you and a piece of paper with a C or an A on it, for the album artwork. like these people did:
i asked DAVID BURY ( singer/keyboards/programming/producer) what this project is all about:
“We came up with the idea, as it ticks so many boxes for us, we see CAA as a kind of multimedia project, we have a message, we make the message through words, videos etc., we like to get people involved, it sounds clicked, but we are a band of the people for the people, we like to get people to get involved, I was listening to The Psychedelic Furs song “Blacks/Radio” which contains a Warhol line, which got me thinking about Andy’s “everyone will be famous for 15 minutes” quote which led to this idea. So we’ve asked everyone we know to pose with Either a C or an A take a picture of it and then send it to us at info@callingallastronauts.com, the response so far has been fabulous, I wasn’t sure at first if people would grasp it, but it seems to have inspired people across the social networks.”
IF THAT DOES INSPIRE YOU, you still have time to put in your two cents. deadline is wednesday. email your photo to info@callingallastronauts.com .
NEIL GAIMAN had his birthday yesterday and I wished I wasn’t too late to write this post but anyway, I will turn it down to a belated Birthday – to find a reason to write bout Neil Obsession post – and you will not mind.
I heard of Neil first time through the help of Tori Amos … cuz she mentioned him in her songs. After listening to “Tear in your hand” I started to research. I got fixed. And Tear in your hand is from Toris first album, anyway. Knowing the fact that he is now married to Amanda Palmer and was with her these days on a spectacular tour I couldn’t attend but he released with her that amazing book “Who killed Amanda Palmer?” … I just want to mention.
Thanx god, that I was researching lyrics at the begin of my Tori Amos obsession. I am not doing this anymore. I just gave up. But coming back to Neil … I wanted to know more about this man who is hanging up with the dreamking. I wanted to know who was the Dreamking.
The Dreamking is the character of Neil’s very popular intelligent comic serial SANDMAN that is published by Vertigo / DC Comics. Within the years I finally got all issues. And I love each of them. I never read Comics before and I have to say, that these Comics are the only ones I really like. There are some single pieces of so called “graphic novels” I like from other writers but a real serial never fixed me as much as Neil Gaimans Sandman did to me.
I like it that you usually are not able to guess what’s coming next in the stories. I hate it when you know how something ends. I like the crossings between mythology, philosophy, real world, idealistic world, dream world just within one piece. It is a really big gift for a writer to let all this stuff be put together in harmony or creative adorable chaos. My most favourite Sandman piece is an extra piece. It’s Dreamhunter with drawings by Yoshitaka Amano. It is my private treasure.
It is a story from Japan about tragical romance between a young monk and a magical fox. I just simply love this tale and I love the pictures and the symbolism and morale.
Other graphic novel / comics by Neil Gaiman I own are: Murder Mysteries, Marvel 1602 and the Batman episode.
The first Novel I read by him was Neverwhere. I needed three times for it to finish it. I am not sure why it took me so long time. After the beginning struggles I just felt in love with his writing style, his humor, the characters. Everything just fitted.
After that I read American Gods quite in time after the first release of it. I loved this book but anyhow Anansi Boys is still my favourite. I was able to be at one live reading on his Anansi Boys Promotion Tour in Germany at the International Bookfair in Leipzig (Leipziger Buchmesse). I wrote in my diary about it… (if you don’t mind … in German)
LEIPZIG SPIZZ 22.03.2007
bezahlen musste.
Also richtig fett.
Hast Du schon mal Goethe gelesen?
I really like Neil Gaimans voice. It is for me anyhow eargasm. So I collect his audiobooks as well. So whenever I feel crappy I am listening to his audiobooks.
Neil Gaiman is also popular for books for children like Coraline, The Graveyard Book, Stardust.
And of course his shortstories like M is for magic …
2009 I have seen him the second time at the Harbour Front Literature Festival in Hamburg doing a Reading of the Graveyard Book in a church. This was slightly cool.
Of course this post is not a post with a lot of news. It is just a post with a lot of bla bla and things you probably knew before … but I wanted to find a time to write something bout him … and his birthday yesterday just gave me an alibi to do.
I am looking for new books, graphic novels … of him in closer future.
we need killer posters and a street team to help get the word out about the shows in Germany.
einmal in weiß …
und einmal in schwarz…
*
