today zach braff launched a kickstarter for his new movie WISH I WAS HERE
this is a great way for filmmakers to make the films they dreamed of and not the ones the money people think are good for making even more money.
i had a lot of fun watching the trailer…http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1869987317/wish-i-was-here-1
go there and check it out, because i am too stupid to embed the kickstarter video…
Sportler in Lateinamerika.
this is a must see for all bike couriers and the wifes of ex bike couriers like me :). these guys are nuts!!! and this film brings it to the srcreeen that they just have to be crazy to be able to do the job.
Last year the Berlin Philharmonics went again on a big Asia tour that ended in Singapur. They performed Gustav Mahler Symphony No.1 and Sergeij Rachmaninov “Symphonic Dances”. Two absolutely stunning epic works of genious. When I have seen the posters about the movie I knew, I had to see it.
This morning at 11:30 am there was a screening at the Passage cinema and I did enjoy it much besides the fact that I hate 3D completely. I usually got headaches from watching 3D. But anyway, I just forgot the fact and did enjoy the full concert (the first time ever that a philharmonic concert was dropped on moviescreens to be brought to anyone who just never had the chance or slightly the simple idea to invest money into one philharmonic concert.
Of course there are three options about watching this movie.
First: You are not interested and you wouldn’t go there anyway.
Second: You are interested and you wouldn’t go to a concert live because you are not ready to pay too much money for stuff you would probably not like or understand or both of it.
Third: You are a geek, classic music fan and open to new technologies.
I am the third one type. I know there are a forth type left. Those geeks who just believe and say that the live thing at the opera or philharmony building is the real thing but this is not the way how the Berlin Philharmonics used to be public. They are living in the 21st century and I am very thankful for that. You have the chance to explore the big variety of exciting music from the past to the modern era. I like it how they try to encourage people to see music. In just different versions … like in their Digital Concert Hall link or in their cooperation with the Youtube Symphony Orchestra link or like in that complete filmed concert I had the chance to watch.
GUSTAV MAHLER Symphony No.1
I am not telling you how much I love Gustav Mahlers Symphonys. I do Love them, especially No.6. Symphony No.1 is also called “Titan”. It sounds amazingly bombastic. It is a symphony with a lot of great momements. My favourite movement is the third one … because of its kind of gypsy dancing tunes in it. You can watch it completely if you want at you tube performed by the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig conducted by Riccardo Chailly
SERGEIJ RACHMANINOV Symphonic Dances
The Symphonic Dances is my most favourite orchestral piece by Rachmaninov. I loved it how the Berlin Phils played it. I got a recording of one Finnish Orchestra at home and this was pretty much fun (but most of all just “fast”. The concert in Singapur was more focused on melody lines and the rhythm changes within. I liked it pretty much.
Here you can watch it … if you like completey at youtube.
For the complete Berlin Philharmonics fun you need to get to cinema of course. It is it all worthy. I had to pay 11.50 Euro for the ticket. But I promise, you can never get sooooo close to any musician than through the eyes of the cameras of the movie. It was a big pleasure for me. And geek as I am I was pretty happy to see a lot of my favourite members of the Berlin Phils.

During the last days I have been finally watching three pictures at the Filmfest. “Novena” from Paraguay (a production from the Netherlands), “The Music never stopped” from the USA and the Final feature “Monsieur Lazhar” from Canada.
Novena by Enrique Collar
On Thursday evening I went to the premiere of “Novena” (another movie after “The Waves”) in the Vitrina Section of this year’s Filmfest. “Novena” is in English called “The Nine Deathprayers”
This picture takes place in a small town in Paraguay and it describes the 9 days after a death in a ceremony. The Vitrina head said: “Novena is a pain in the ass film” because you don’t know whether it is a documentary, a motionpicture or some artificial inbetween. The director of that picture was a painter before he did his first feature film and before he moved from Paraguay to the Netherlands. He said at the Q+A that Novena was formerly imaged in a painting cycle with a 2mx2m piece. He said as well that the picture was made in in his hometown in Paraguay with people that were from that town inclusive his uncle.
I liked this silent and calm artificial picture. And if you have anytime the chance to see it. By the way, the actors spoke completely in Guarani. I was happy bout the subtitles.
The Music never stopped by Jim Kohlberg
Friday evening I have seen this feature at the <a href="3001 in the Schanzenviertel.
This picture that is based on an essay by Oliver Sacks about one patient he once have had was fantastic. I was touched … (I was weeping at different parts of the picture.) First of all the trailer…
Gabriel leaves shortly before he finishes the College his home. He has big conflicts with his parents because he is into music, against the Vietnam war and against this conservative life of his parents. 20 years later the parents will be informed that Gab is having a really big brain tumor and they have to be there for him. Gab will lose most of his brain in a surgery. After the surgery the parents will have long time no connection emotionally to Gabriel. His father is doing research and reads about a musictherapist and he is fighting her to take care of him. After a lot of lows and downs … there will be a connection between the father and his son even when it is just with the help of lyrics and sounds by the Grateful Dead. I highly can recommend this picture. It's just not about the relationship between Gab and his parents. It is about the power of music. And it is an hommage for musictherapy.
Yesterday I went finally to the last feature of the Filmfest. I was able to see who were winning the “Awards” at the theater but I will tell you about it later in a final Filmfest post.
Monsieur Lazhar by Philippe Falardeau
The picture had its premiere at the Locarno Film Festival and at this festival it hunted a deal with Arsenal (a German distribution) down. Later it was at the Toronto International Film Festival and anyhow … since then the director feels like “George Clooney in Up in the air” cuz his motionpicture is anyhow always highly much liked and wherever he goes … it will go home with a prize. 🙂 … This picture deserves it.
It is a hearttouching story about one schoolclass that has lost its teacher. She did suicide. Monsieur Bachir Lazhar read about it in the newspaper and he wants to be the new teacher. He is an immigrant from Algier where his family was terrorized and he asks in Canada for asylum … the school doesn’t know about. What happens to the schoolclass and what happens to Monsieur Lazhar?! Well you can watch it very soon in your local theaters because the “Worldtour” of this movie just started. Monsieur Lazhar won in Hamburg the Art Cinema Award donated by the C.I.C.A.E. Congratulations.
i´ve watched this movie yesterday…and i was shocked how bad the situation seems to be…here in germany it starts like this, too. little by little the healthcare companys want extra pay for this and extra pay for that…i can remember when i was a child…everything was for free (well not for free, the working people do all have a health insurance auromaticly, it is payed half from the money they earn (automaticly)and half from their employer. )…but now you work and you have to pay, too…above the payment you give from your working money.
it is bad for people with teeth problems here, too…even for kids. i´ve payed my kids dentist 600,-€…and i have a health insurance!…when i was little, kids got their medication and it was ok. no pay above…but now…
or the college…a few years ago it was free, now the students have to pay. i think it is good for a country to give their people a free college education. you can have a brain if you are poor, too…but you are not supposed to use it, because you can´t afford the education???
so sorry, this is the beginning of the end…
…i had tears in my eyes at the end of the movie…these people, i´m so sorry for them.
